So I guess you didn't see the closing ceremonies, at least not near the end. Olympic sites are generally chosen 7 years in advance. At all Olympic closing ceremonies, an Olympic flag is passed from the representative of the city that just had the Olympics to a representative of the city that will have the next Olympics of that type. (summer to summer or winter to winter) Then there is a presentation from the next city to get people interested in it. China has wanted the games so much (unfortunately, for political reasons) that their venues are almost complete already.

actually the chinese are moving so fast that they can get all of their stadiums ready by the end of 2006. That is 2 years before the games. But in Athens 6 months before the games, they did not know yet if it would be ready by august.
I think this gives an image of how powerfull China can become, maybe to powerfull?
