I agree with ya 100% Sheila! The Omaha Zoo is so cool; they are always updating and researching. Currently, they have a gorilla valley project that will open sometime this year--April I think. It'll have 2 acres for a smallish group of gorillas to play in. They've coined it a place where the gorillas watch you as if you're in an exhibit instead of the other way around. I'm really excited about that!
There's also the Kugel Ball, the Desert Dome, Kingdoms of the Night, the indoor rainforest, an aquarium, an IMAX, a wildlife park, and a large learning center filled with bunches of small animals.
I'll have to look up what exactly is ranked what, but I am pretty sure Henry Doorly Zoo has the world's biggest enclosed dome and world's largest nocturnal exhibit. I also believe their indoor rainforest is the largest in the nation (there's two levels to it).
What's really neat is that you can often see Lee Simmons--the zoo director--walking around like an ordinary visitor. You can ask him questions if you chance by him too. He told me when I met him at the Kingdoms of the Night preview ceremony that the zoo was trying to get through all the red tape and get a pair of duckbill playpus'.
It also seems that the further back into the Omaha Zoo you go, the exhibits seem to need more updating; like the Cat Complex for example (I think the Cat Complex is the nation's largest...not sure). But that's the only true flaw I can think of. It appears Simmons is revamping the zoo from the front back, so improvements will be made in the future.
Ok...I'll stop now before I go all out...hehe...

Can't really say I have a Favorite Zoo. There are many I haven't seen yet. But the one that left the biggest impression on me is the one in Pensacola, Florida.
Here check it out...

The zoos you describe are great, why not put a link to them in your post?

My favorite zoo is the Fort Wayne Zoo. It's packed with all sorts of animals. FWZoo is the closest to me, so it's loads better when it comes to traveling. Right now we are building a special aquatic area for reef fish, sharks, crustaceans, and invertebrates. I haven't been to the zoo in a while, so I'm not sure whether or not they have completed that area yet.
We are home to the last Tasmanian Devil outside of Tasmania. It's an elder male who is teetering on life's edge. Thankfully the zoo is taking great care of him.
This zoo is much better than the Indianapolis Zoo in my opinion. Sorry, Blue.
We have a colossal walk-through rainforest dome that is home to some of the world's rarest butterflies and rainforest-inhabited birds. The rainforest area is built inside a huge enclosed dome which is attached to other indoor areas of the zoo. Bridges in the rainforest dome are built upon rushing creeks, occupied with fish of all sorts. The foliage is so tall, you must crane your neck to see up to practically any tree or smaller plant. It's amazing.
I love this zoo so much. It takes great, great care of all its animals, and if anything, the staff is so nice and concentrated on their work.
