beetle: 1 letter matches (0 in the right place)
jaguar: 1 letter matches (0 in the right place)
plaice: 1 letter matches (0 in the right place)
locust: 1 letter matches (0 in the right place)
walrus: 0 letters match (0 in the right place)
puffin: 2 letters match (1 in the right place)

Because of all of the "0 in the right place" and "0 letters match", we know that it cannot begin with: a, b, j, l, p, r, s, u, or w.
Because of the "0 letters match", we know that it cannot have the vowels: a or u.
Also because of the "0 letters match", we know that it cannot have the consonents: l, r, s, or w.
All of this tells us a lot and allows guessing with other starting letters and other vowels.

As an additional hint, at least one type of this animal has been made by users for ZT.

jaguar: 1 letter matches (0 in the right place)
plaice: 1 letter matches (0 in the right place)
locust: 1 letter matches (0 in the right place)
walrus: 0 letters match (0 in the right place)
puffin: 2 letters match (1 in the right place)
ferret: 0 letters match (0 in the right place)

Now we know that it cannot begin with: a, b, e, f, j, l, p, r, s, t, u, or w.
And we know that it cannot have the vowels: a, e, or u.
And we know that it cannot have the consonents: f, l, r, s, t, or w.

That also tells us a few letters it has to have. It must have a "b" because "beetle" has 1 matching letter and the "e", "t", and "l" are ruled out by "ferret" and "walrus".
It must also have either "j" or "g" because "jaguar" has 1 matching letter and the "a", "u", and "r" are ruled out by "walrus".
It is a little more complex, but because of "plaice", "puffin", "walrus", and "ferret", we know that it must have a "n", cannot have "c", and must have either "p" or "i".
Finally, because of the "c" being ruled out and because of "locust", "walrus", and "ferret", we know that it must have an "o".

Gibbon is correct. Congratulations.

Gibbons are the only other primates besides humans that move upright on two legs while running or walking. They are also the only primate that are true brachiators, an animal that can swing hand over hand through the trees, letting go with one hand before grasping with the other. They do not have tails and they are monogamous.

Your turn.
