This one is a little tougher even though it is only 4 letters. It is the name used in the western United States for a certain animal. (Some refer to it as a subspecies, or maybe even a subsubspecies.)
lobo: correct
The scientific name for a gray wolf is Canis lupus. It was once common throughout the Northern Hemisphere (Eurasia and North America), but is now chiefly restricted to the more unpopulated parts of its range. A gray wolf in northern North America is called a timber wolf. Some believe the timber wolf is a subspecies, with the scientific name C. lupus occidentalis. A timber wolf in the western United States is called a lobo. Some believe the lobo is another name for a gray wolf; some believe the lobo is a subspecies; some believe it is a subsubspecies. "Lobo" comes from the Spanish translation of "lupus".

leopard: 2 letters match
These rodents live in northern regions. The name is Norwegian. A couple different species are available as downloads from another Zoo Tycoon site. A computer game and a sequel were made in the early 90s that were inspired by this animal, and one of its periodic behaviors.
lemming: correct
Lemmings are noted for their mass migrations as a result of periodic population increases. Sometimes these migrations involve crossing large bodies of water and they drown in the attempt. The computer games ("Lemmings!" and "Oh no, more Lemmings!") were arcade/puzzle games where you help them to get safely to an exit while trying to minimize how many die.

I like the name. It is pronounced as "smyoo", with the "oo" as in "too". I also like the male's black and white coloration pattern, especially the mask. Its scientific name is Mergus albellus. The National Zoo web site has a couple of pictures of theirs: http://nationalzoo.si.edu/animals/birds/in...ault.cfm?id=370
