I am having problems.. so i got two questions.. what would cause problems with research and conservation.. instead of what should be there.. there is cat and then some numbers for like the bottom 3-4 on both R&C...not sure what i did to get that..
second question.. when u do have a problem is there anyway of fixing it without uninstalling and then reinstalling zoo.. its getting realllllly annoying..the loading and reload of the game to add stuff one by one

I cannot give a specific answer for the R&C question. Zoo Admin has R&C hacks as well as user created scenarios involving R&C. I believe other sites also have similar types of things. Maybe you have one of those hacks or scenarios and they are causing the problem. I have never installed those hacks or scenarios, so I do not know what behavior they can cause.
As for the second question, I can only give general advice. I never had to reinstall Zoo Tycoon. I had to copy the lang0.dll file from the Zoo Tycoon CD-ROM to get rid of patches made by user downloads. My Zoo Tycoon game has not had sporadic problems or unusual messages since. Here are my general suggestions:
Whenever I download things for Zoo Tycoon, I never use the ingame "get item" option. I always copy the files manually to the appropriate folders. (ztd files to Updates folder. dll files to Zoo Tycoon's main folder. Blue Fang scenerio zoo files to maps folder. User created zoos to Saved Games folder.) I only copy a few files at a time. I write down the file names. Then I test them. I check their rotations in menus and in zoos. I check their tooltips. I check aniimal info screens. I check things in and out of water and in and out of exhibits when appropriate. I click on anything I put into the zoo. I check Zookeeper Recommendations, even for objects placed in exhibits. I check all menus to make sure messages for other things are not overwritten. For animals, I let the game run for two game months. For buildings, I watch the guests use the building. I see if the guests move away from the building before entering them. I see if the guests get something in their inventory (sometimes the first few guests might not, but some other guests do), go to sit on benches, get up, and go sit down again shortly after (the guest inventory will still contain the item). If I have problems, I can easily remove the files right away since I put them there manually and because I only test a few at a time.
I no longer run Patch programs or Setup programs that come with downloads.
With just a few exceptions (the freeform unlock being the most obvious), I do not install user hacks, user scenarios, or items that I think might have new guest animations.
In addition to making sure I am using Zoo Tycoon's lang0.dll file, I also deleted any user dll file that was bigger than 1.8 mb (since these would be copies of lang0.dll).
My Zoo Tycoon has been running much better by following the above. However, if you have not been doing the above, you might have to reinstall Zoo Tycoon before you can start doing the above. If so, be sure to uninstall, then manually delete all Zoo Tycoon folders, then reinstall. (I have heard that some people also have to use the registry cleaner from Zoo Admin just before doing the reinstall.) You might want to save the zoo.ini file and the zoos in Saved Games before uninstalling. Hopefully you are already saving downloads elsewhere before putting them in Zoo Tycoon.
I hope this helps.

Look at all of the other things I mentioned as well, especially the items concerning dll files. All messages, including those for R&C, come from lang0.dll. If it was changed or is being overwritten by a user dll file, it can cause all sorts of craziness. All of the other things are important as well, such as not using the ingame "get item" (or "download locally") option. If you do a clean install as described above, follow those rules, and still have problems, then you might want to see if your video card driver is old and needs to be updated.
