If reality is an illusion, does that mean we can eat pie for lunch? Banana pie if possible

That is not the original painting and I believe the painting with all the stairs is a little bit more famous then the never ending water

That's rather captivating, that is. The paintings are very mesmerizing, very interesting. There seems to always be something more to look for in the visual. He's rather good, I'd say. Some of his work seems a bit too weird for me, yet that's what he does. Though his work is very illustrious in my opinion.

it's how you look on them
I think this one is the hardest one to get

Yeah, cuz in order for this pic to be "true," the water would have to be flowing uphill...I've seen a lot of these. In fact I used to have on in my room...

It's not that the water is flowing uphill. (The waterfall generates enough force to turn the wheel which pushes the water back up the hill, assuming there is no lose due to friction. I like apparent perpetual motion devices and pictures.) What isn't right is where the columns are connected to the channel, as well as the perspective of the channel.

And I also think the "stairs" ones might be more famous. There are two. One looks like they go up forever but end up wrapping around again. The other has stairs that you can't tell what is up and down and it looks like people are climbing them both "on top" and "upside down". These are also false perspective paintings. I don't like them as much as perpetual motion type pictures.

Well, yeah, actually I think it's both. :P But the water one messes with my head more than the columns.

There are many places where friction comes into play, including the water against the wheel paddles, axle against the axle shaft (and possibly bearings), water against the side of the channel, and water against the air. Each has a different "sliding coefficient of friction", as Mechanical Engineers would say. (At least that was the term used when I was in college. I never liked it because things aren't usually sliding; like here. I always thought "movement friction factor" would be a better term.)

Then there is the effect of evaporation, but that isn't as significant as the friction.

But that doesn't count water that makes it around the sides of the paddles.. Also, if the water was going up the slope being pushed from the bottom, it would spill over the sides, unless there's some sort of inivisible barrier stopping it...

my math teacher says: that you have to try to imagine that the canal always stays on the same level, it's just the perspective that fools you
