I live!

Anyway, yes, KC rocks! And yes, the Orient is gone from Worlds of Fun. I think they built a new ride in its place...I forgot the name though...

The Arch is a great monument to visit. I enjoyed seeing the museum, but I disliked that they had a stuffed pinto/paint horse in there... :(

Independence is also the place where most settlers started on the trail to Oregon or California (during the gold rush).

The Lakes in Missouri are wonderful too.

Does anyone know what's on the Colorado quarter, if they have one?

According to the U.S. mint site, the Colorado quarter will come out in the middle of 2006. So the final design probably has not been chosen yet.

Stuffed horses can be honorable. Roy Rogers had Trigger stuffed and put on display after Trigger's death. That was considered an honor, a form of immortality. But, of course, everyone has their own values and beliefs. I usually do not have problems with things done by the National Park Service. I believe they are the best of the government agencies.

You can see the five design finalists for the Colorado quarter at their official state quarter website. :D

I like the one on the bottom left best, but all of them are really neat!

What? No design of the extreme car racing that occurs going up the narrow, winding mountain road? I thought all Colorado residents want to portray themselves as extremists.

The Mesa Verde is my favorite by far, even though it is not technically accurate. The Press Room link on that Colorado Quarter page has a couple of links to Mesa Verde photographs.

3 favorites so far and they are all different.

Since one of the mints is in Denver, it would have been interesting to have a different design for those minted in Denver than from the other mint. But they did not do that for Philadelphia. So I guess they cannot do that for Denver.

Have to say I like the Mesa Verde one as well. Can't wait to see which one they decide on. I have really enjoyed collecting them, although the 2 I was most looking forward to are the 2 I have been MOST disappointed in (Texas and Californioa). Favorite ones so far for me have to be Iowa and Maine. Kids even loved them.

I live in Colorado and I think our Centennial State design is the best. Mesa Verde is only a small, small fraction of our state and the ski division most people never heard of so the Centennial design should win. Our governor votes on it in either May or June. I hope the Centennial state design wins. I think it acturately portrays Colorado. (Though cars racing up Pikes Peak in the Hill Climb would've been fun)

I have collected the quarters from the start. I think Vermont, Arkansas, and Maine are the best so far. Can't wait till next year for good old Colorado!

I find them all very interesting, I also think Centennial State design is the best.

so the Kansas quarter has a bison on it
HERE

but I am partial to the bison on the nickel!
HERE

also, I've always more closely associated bison with Wyoming or South Dakota
which don't come due until 2007 & 2006 respectively and there's no way they can have a bison on their quarters now, right?
(Though I expect South Dakota might have a Mount Rushmore theme)

and there IS a bison on one of them! Which I like better than Kansas's design.
but I voted for the Mount Rushmore & Bison design

I definitely think the SD quarter should have Mount Rushmore on it in some way. It is very iconic indeed for the state.

I like #1 and #4 best.

the bird with mt. rushmore. I think that's the best one. But it is South Dakota and they must have Mt. Rushmore. Adding th ebird above it looks really spiffy.
