Older String Ids

These are lists for designers to view and to update so that multiple designers do not accidentally choose the same name or id and cause a conflict within ZT.

As a number of you know, we have reached the end of the id range we were using. I have looked to see what ids appear to be unused. The end of the existing range was 7440-7487 along with its corresponding 37440-37487 and 62440-62487. I do not know if Jane still wants those or not. I would not recommend using 7437-7439 since that would involve using the same string block that Blue Fang used for other ids for foliage.

Here at ZKL, jbl indicated that he was no longer going to use 8200-8250. That means that it looks like range 8144-8239 would be available, along with its corresponding 38144-38239 and 63144-63239.

Those cover the largest and second largest previously unused ranges. The third largest unused range appears to be 2480-2991, along with its corresponding 32480-32991 and 57480-57991. When people start using ids from this range, I would recommend doing more thorough testing than usual. Although I would not expect it, since this is a new range, there is always the possibility that those ids could trigger Zoo Tycoon to do something unexpected.

For any of the above ranges, I recommend that people only take 16 at a time (plus the corresponding 16 in the 3xxxx and 5/6xxxx ranges) since a single string block can only contain up to 16 strings. That would reduce the risk of one person accidentally overwriting messages of another person. It would also help us not to waste ids. I also recommend working backwards in ranges. That will separate the user ids from the Blue Fang ids more.

I do not assign ids. So I am only reporting which ids appear to be available for others to reserve.

You are correct that those ranges have not been used or reserved yet from what I know. I assume you are saying that you are reserving them.

I would not take a chance of using 36208-36210 or 61208 - 61210. Since Zoo Tycoon uses 6208-6210, I would worry that Zoo Tycoon would do something differently. Sometimes Zoo Tycoon does things differently if it sees that a 3xxxx or a 55000+xxxx message exists for an xxxx message.

re-reserving 1600-1800 for my personal UXP. Have found lots of items on a lost backup cd, will most likely finish them one by one (not in a hurry though) and publish immediately.

I know it seems a lot, but it will also include updates of my previous stuff, so those strings would become available again

jbl, when I update projects, I use the same IDs. That way, it does not matter which version is being used. The correct information will be displayed.
