Topic: *Strange problem that is only on my dads comp.*

When I play ZT after a while the comp will just shut off. It goes to a
blue screen. Dumping physical memory blah blah. Then it restarts! Do you
know what's happening?

There are many things that can cause a crash. You might want to read the
"Game Crashes, Loading issues, Errors" topic near the top of the
Technical Support section. If it is an older computer than it is
possible it does not have enough memory (real or virtual), especially if
there are quite a number of downloads. But the "Game Crashes, Loading
issues, Errors" topic lists a number of other possible causes as well.

Actually it happens anytime. ZT just makes it crash faster. It doesn't
seem to happen when I do anything either. It seems like after a certain
amount of time after I start the game. It happened when I was raising
terrain. Setting foliage, changing terrain. etc.

If your system can crash at any time, even when not playing Zoo Tycoon,
then it is no surprise that Zoo Tycoon would make it crash faster. Zoo
Tycoon probably uses more of the system than any other program. There
are still many possible causes. If it just started crashing recently,
then something must have changed on the system. If the system has also
crashed since getting it, then there might be some problem with the
system that must be fixed or upgraded, or maybe the system as to be
completely replaced. Also, all versions of Microsoft Windows are
notorious for having bugs that will eventually cause crashes.

The "Game Crashes, Loading issues, Errors" topic mentions a number of
things to look at. Here is a subset:

.. make sure you have all windows updates current.
.. did you recently update your video driver? if so, get your old one
back. if you didn't update the driver, do so. (i highly recommend you
visit the manufactuers website instead of visiting windows update to get
the drivers. we MAY provide BASIC support for helping you FIND the driver.)
..TRIPLE verify you meet system requirements.
includes: memory, directX, processor, video card, cdrom speed. add more
memory just cause!
.. get more memory, or a new video card if you can.
..uninstall anything you had recently installed as in another game or
something.
..ask your hardware vender to first chk your Virtual Memory settings.
(we may provide VERY basic support for this)
...ask your hardware vender to run diagnostics on your video card,
memory, and processor
.. ENTER SAFEMODE! go into safemode but restarting the PC. at the black
load up screens, tap the f8 key until you get a menu. (if you get a
windows splash screen,
its too late.. try again) at the menu chose safe mode.. hit Enter. once
in here, play your game. does it work? good. this means, possible bad
video driver. does it not work? this means, Windows corruption or
hardware failure. (video card, or memory.. so, replace it.)
...reinstall windows; a corrupt windows operating system will cause your
game to crash as well.

Topic: *How does one remove a downloaded animal*, Help Me

I just download a bunch of stuff and now my game isn't working right. I
realize it must be one of the files I download. I delete the files from
my desktop but they are still showing up on my game. Is there a to
remove them from the game?

Welcome to the Lounge.

As mentioned in various guides near the top of Technical Support, go
into your updates folder to remove an item. If you installed Zoo Tycoon
in the default directory, the path is
C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Zoo Tycoon/Updates
Right click on the file you want to get rid of and choose delete. If you
installed the item via the "Check Locally" option in Zoo Tycoon, there
might be more than one file to delete. (For this reason, it is
recommended to install things manually instead of via "Check Locally".
This makes it easier to know what to delete. In the pinned topics near
the top of Technical Support, there is also a guide explaining how to
download and install manually.)

Topic: *How do you erase scenario information*, As in: Which ones you've
completed

Forever and a day ago I read somewhere on this forum that you could
delete completed scenario information. I decided to redo my scenarios,
and needed to know how to do this. Help?

You should be able to replay the scenarios without doing anything. So I
assume you want Zoo Tycoon to keep track of them for you.

The "Current List of Known Issues, Answered" topic in Technical Support
talks about how to edit the zoo.ini file to tell Zoo Tycoon which
scenarios you completed. There is a section that looks something like this:

[scenario]
tutorial=0
aa=1
ae=1
...

Each line with a "1" tells Zoo Tycoon which scenario was completed. If
you remove a line, such as "aa=1", Zoo Tycoon will believe that scenario
was not done yet. (Changing the "1" to "0" might also work.) If you want
to redo all scenarios, you can remove all of the lines in the
"[scenario]" section.

Topic: GRRRRRRRRRRRR Help!

Hi hope someone can help me, I had to uninstall my entire zootycoon
game bad.gif I'm still trying to get everything back...but, I don't know what
the problem is, I have all the scenarios back except for UXP2. I get it
downloaded ok, but when it comes to unzipping it there's an error
message that reads: Bad CRC 2b6cce6a, should be 4790923b. What the
heck does this mean and how can I get the UXP2 scenarisos back?

Appreciate any help!!

It sounds like UXP2 did not download correctly. That is a major
advantage of "zip" files. They have a way of checking (via the checksum
or CRC) whether the "zip" file is corrupted or not. Try downloading UXP2
again.
