I'm not exactly new to ZT, but I've had a problem recently, and don't
know how to fix it. I can get through the scenarios with no problems,
except the Forest Zoo scenario. I get about halfway through it, and the
game crashes, giving me an error message that says that the "application
failed to initialize properly". I've uninstalled and re installed the
game more times than I care to recount for various problems. I don't
have any downloaded items (from the last time I had to reinstall the
crazy thing), so I know it isn't that. Anybody have any suggestions?

when you get this message, do you get a number at the end? - such as
(0xc000142)? - is this a blue screen error? (where the whole screen goes
blue) - and what version of windows do you run? -thankyou.

ok. if this is the only time you get the message (during zoo tycoon
play) i ask that you try out a defrag and a scan disk (or speed disk if
you have Nortons installed)
First do a scandisk. - this checks your hard drive, (c drive) to make
sure there are no errors.
to do this, My Computer, right click on your C drive and left click on
properties. there should be a tab across the top called Tools. click
this, and there should be an option to run scan disk (or error
checking)- let this run its course- it may take a few hours.
next, to run a defrag, make sure you turn off your screen saver. double
click My Computer, right click on your C drive and left click on
properties. there should be a tab across the top called Tools. click
this, and there should be an option to run a Defrag. click this, and let
it run.
*note- this may take a loooong time, and you cant do anything while this
runs. best to do the defrag, then go to sleep!

if you have zt, and just MM, *with no dino digs*, i do not think you can
get the super croc, since you need a scientist to take care of it.
but if you have the dino digs expansion pack, then just like ballaw
said, beat the DD scnearios, and it will be unlocked for you.
or, rename an exhibit Super Croc (yep, 2 words, case sensitive) to
unlock the animal- which will appear in the animal adopt tab

if it is only zoo tycoon freezing up, then firstly uninstall the game,
and the reinstall. if it continues to freeze, is this a user created
map? developers mode? or a map that is originally from the game...
does the game freeze when you click on an animal? (is this a user
created animal? and the same goes for objects/food stands, fences etc)
have you recently modifyed any files?
also, has this just started to happen with your game?-oooh and before i
forget, how many user created items do you have in your updates folder?
...yeah.. did this only just start to freeze? i just today had to
reinstall Age of Mythology because it just... kinda crapped out on
me...this stuff just happens some times.
please keep us posted.

stuck it doesn't count as being there anymore and it can't be moved it
is like it disappears.I love using tanks in the exhibits,but this is the

Sorry if I sent you this before ,don't want to be a pest,
laugh.gif I didn't remember.It is just so annoying because when it
happens it is as if the animal just disappeared it doesn't show up
anywhere and only happens with that dang elephant.Thanks for your time .

nonono- i meant that i have seen this issue before- and it was with a
zoo of my own, and it was that kind of elephant too - i notice they get
*stuck* between the corner if the ladder is close to the corner - i
passed this off as a bug in my game - i had to delete the tank, and pick
up the elephant (in his box) and then put him on land while i re-filled
the tank... everything seemed to be ok.
I also had a stuck penguin who later went invisable... i do not think
there is anything wrong with your game, i think its a bug.

this may come across as extremely dense but why is there a tank in the
elephant exhibit? it doesn't seem that the guests can see the tank so is
it just so the elephant can swim?

Ok, Umm Im not sure what happened, zoo tycoon was working for me
yesterday, now it wont load... I click to on my icon to load it, it just
seems to open and close as fast, I try to uninstall and it wont let

I got it uninstalled and reinstalled again... now its working fine...
anyways the dll that was missing was the setupenu.dll... thats why it
wouldnt let me uninstall it... I went in reg and uninstalled it manually.

called updates. open this folder, and there is a list of .ztd files in
there. (anything .zip should NOT be in there, nor .dll's)
inside the updates folder is anything and everything you have downloaded.

i have found that once i go to play a new or existing game after
downloading new items that the game will crash after around 15mins im
wondering why this happens.
i can play the game for hours with no problems if i dont add new items
i was told that it could be because this is an american site and the
english versions of zoo tycoon dd and mm is different

this occurs when you have certain user created items that are not
compatible
with the game.
go into c:program filesmicrosoft gameszoo tycoon and save your zoo.ini
file to a seperate location. (make a copy.. to say.. My Documents....)
now... to fix this easily, uninstall zoo tycoon. then go to c:program
filesmicrosoft games and delete the zoo tycoon folder.
then reinstall zt, dont add any patches. then install DD and MM.
then go back to the main folder and add back your zoo.ini file.
now. test your game.
you may need to start a NEW map.
if you find this is working, STICK to downloading up to 5 things at a time,
and then testing your game.
things like user created buildings are a huge issue, if they arent
compatible. to get around this, never use the patch over write to overwrite
any .dll's. only stick to the .ztd's.
*note: anything MS official works in the game.
if this doesnt work, then we'll move on to something else

rite i can play anytype of game senario or freeform utill i install

ok, just so im clear on this; if you have a clean, empty updates folder,
the game runs well and no game crashes.
if this is the case, try installing only 1 item at a time? and then
testing out the game.
may i ask what version number you are running...
when the main zoo tycoon menu screen comes up , there should be a number
on the bottom right hand side.. whats that number?

yes that is right it does not matter though what i download from this
site or how many it still crashes and the version is 1204000009 i also
have DD + MM it does let me use the microsoft created animals though i

Hi. We have ZT and the MM expansion pack that includes DD. Since
installing the expansion pack, every time we play the game and then exit
it, the computer freezes and needs to be reset. Not a major issue, but
an irritant nonetheless. Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions on
how to resolve the issue?
We have a modest set up with Win98, a PIII chip, 128MB SDRAM, 9GB hard
drive. Not sure if you need that info, but it seemed to be requested
frequently when I was scanning the other posts for similar probs.

Yes, we do, but I think it was freezing up before we d/l any
user-created things. The other d/l are from the Microsoft site; could
those be wonky?

Oh yes, several. I haven't considered them because the issue did not
present itself until after the installation of the MM/DD expansion pack.
That is to say, of course the computer froze from time to time as all
computers are wont to do, but the frequency increased after the
installation.
I have begun restarting the computer every time I exit ZT, and this
seems to help. The reason I started do that was because I thought
perhaps that ZT was taking up so much DRAM and thus causing the freeze.
Probably has nothing to do with that, but what the heck, it works.

On uninstalling ZT before installing marine mania, I see where you can
save your saved games and screenshots, can I also save my updates folder
also so I dont need to redownload all of the ZTD files?

do not save anything that isnot yet MM compatible, when it comes to
items in the updates folder-
things such as official stuff, and flower beds, should be ok, but if you
have anything that required a dll overwrite, (some little extra .exe you
had to run) then those things are soo going to muck up MM on you -
guests will get stuck, wont visit the grandstands, and it will be such a
headache...
your best bet is to do a totally clean install.

you must remove the updates folder, because any official patches from MS
arent supposed to be with MM.
(any patches from ZT or DD are in that folder.. so if you keep that
stuff in there you will have issues!)

program that can send or accept something of such size.

All my African Elephants died of old age (NOTE: I had only purchased
17)...when I went to get more....they were gone. I also noticed that
alot of the animals that had been researched were also missing (All my
researches are done and I had them all before).
I don't have any cracks or cheats installed. I have ZT and MM expansion
pack (with DD). I've been working on this zoo for a few weeks now and
was up to almost 6 mil....would hate to have to start over

Perhaps I should explain it a little better...I had them before...they
keep appearing and disappearing. It's a zoo that I created a couple of
weeks ago...things were working fine until yesterday. It's not only the
research things that disappear...it's also the things that don't need to
be researched.
Also, my dolphin show was awarded and a dolphin statue was given to
me...that was 2 days ago...I've played it may times since then...now it
keeps giving me the award again everytime I start my zoo up.

Yes, I had them before...they keep coming and going. I'm even getting
awards that were received a few days ago. When the animals reappear, I
make sure to save the game again...but if I go to load it up again,
they're gone. This is happening to even items that didn't even need to
be researched.
The only updates I have added are the ones from the official zoo site
(via "check the internet"). I've had those updates from the very
beginning of my game. I have however even gotten rid of those to see if
that was the problem, but it still does the same thing.
I've unistalled and reinstalled. The animals and other items do show up
if I start another free form game so I know they still exist in the game
itself.
I've also tried different ways to load the zoo (i.e. continue last saved
game, load saved game and double clicking on the file itself) thinking
it may help.

can buy female ones but as soon as I try to swich to male the animal's
icon dissapers...but when I opened the game back up it was back...

If you start the game, save it, then get back on some of the animals
won't be available and you will have to research them again.

angel thou it might not be nessesary it might be a good idea to
reinstall everything. just as a precaution because i remember there were
a few bugs when alot of ppl first installed it. just make sure to save
all the folders, games, maps, and bonus stuff before u do so then add
them back in after the instalation. it might not be nessesary but it
could help if ur game begins to act strangely.

Whenever I put a Maintenace Worker in my zoo, the game suddenly crashes
and comes up with that error report. I've tried removing all the
updates, but no success and I've tried reinstalling, but again no success.

reinstall.

No it hasn't always happened. When I reinstalled I did remove the
folder, but I put all the updates back as soon as I did, so I'll try
again and put in the updates one by one.

Well I've got it working again. The strange thing was it only did it on
one map, which was an all South-east Asia wildlife park type thing, I
guess maintenance workers don't like South-east Asia.

yeah you can, it all depends on your video card. for instance, if you
have a higher end video card, you can zoom 3 + even more.

I have ZT,DD, and MM. My zookeepers do not clean up after any of the
animals. They go in and feed them but do not clean up. So then the
animals get mad and the guest get mad. I have been moving the animals to
another exibit the deleting the old one and haveing the matenice(sp)
workers clean it up HELP !!!

how long have you had the game for? im going to ask the silly questions
first, so bear with me!
- make sure you are assigning the zookeepers the an exhibit, and only 1
- 3 keepers per exhibit, (depending how many animals you have)
- make sure you have done the research in the game to make the
keepers/scientists do their job.
if you have a ton of zookeepers in the area, they will pretty much all
sit around - lower the number of zookeepers, and see what happens. -
dont forget to have them assigned to the exhibit.

I have had the gem for a year. Since i have installed MM, and DD it has
been like. The scientists and marine biologists still clean and feed and
heal. Just the zoo kepers don't clean. I only, usually , assin 1
zookeeper to an exibit. I even did the cheat codes(hank Howie(SHHH!)) to
get the research done to have them clean up.
HELP!!!!

What I have done to help is pick up the zookeeper and put the zookeeper
right in front of the poo.

hmmm... please take a screenshot, and email it to me, at michka@cogeco.ca
also, try sending me the saved game as well. (i can recieve up to 5 mb
in attatchments)

you neeed no patch. lets see what happens with the game- and if you do
un/reinstall, make sure you go back to c program filesmicrosoft games
and delete the zoo tycoon folder.

I unstalled ZT. Then I reinstalled it. I played it and the zookeepers
did there jobs. I then reinstalled the MM, and DD. I haven't checked it
but i'll get back after i do. biggrin.gif

I just recently downloaded the dinosaur Gallimimus(don't know if i
spelled it right) from the ZT homepage. It came on my game, but it won't
hatch. I'll put it in a cage and leave it. Then after so long it looks
like it is abotu hatch it begins to shake. Does anyone else have this
problem.

the scientists dont chk them out at all?does it get to the point where you get messages of the egg being very
sick? sometimes picking up the egg and putting it back down gets the
attention of the scientist. i know you can do some research for the
scientist/animal care.

THe scientist will check them. They just won't hatch. They even have the
cracking sound but babies yet.

yes- thats buggy!!
two things-
go into the updates folder in c-program files-microsoft games-zoo
tycoon- updatse and i want you to chk the size of the item in question -
gallium.ztd - it should be around 1.401 KB in size. is your size
different at all?
setp two, download it again and install it per normal. - does this seem
to be the only downloaded animal that is acting weird?

i know that searain was doing something with the screen in another post,
but i tried changing the size of the ZT screen, and it just went
completely black. i know it is not my monitor. please help.
P.S.- about 3 months ago, the same thing happened, then i tried it the
other day and it worked, so i played it, and stupid me, tried to change
the size again. the same thing happened, and i dont want to wait another
3 months B4 i play it again. please help.

Ok, first thing is first, go to your main zoo tycoon folder, located in
c - program files- microsoft games- zoo tycoon and look for something
called zoo.ini .
Open this with wordpad, or notepad.
you will be looking for this string:
[user]
fullscreen=1
screenwidth=800
screenheight=600
please tell me what it is saying on YOUR zoo.ini
if it is anything different, please change it to 800 X 600, as you see
above.
what makes this occur, is when your videocard (the card that your
monitor plugs into, at the back of your system) can't handle the rate
that you are asking for., so instead of blowing up, it just sort of
wonks out, leaving you one mad person!
