The first time I played the game I was able to select 1280x1024
resolution. But now for some reason it's greyed out and I can't click on
it to select it. How can I fix this problem?

had you recently added a new video card or updated to a new driver?
so is it currently IN that resolution? if it IS in that resolution, then
it would be greyed out, because you cant re-choose what you already have...

Well I downloaded the great white shark I got it from ZTU. Well I only
have ZT and it said it was compatable with it ,but now they are always
sick no matter what i do when i buy them and put them in the salt water
they send unhappy red faces does anyone know what is going on? I really
dont want my sharks mad at me or sick HELP!!!

you may need to contact ZTU for that one, i really do not know.. if they
are taken away due to *poor treatment* or are sick no matter what and
you know you are doing everything required, it may jsut be a bug in the
animal, that needs to be corrected.

what needs to be fixed?
when you download the scenario, there are some files...
*.dll*- goes in the main zoo tycoon folder located at c:program
filesmicrosoft gameszoo tycoon
*.ztd* goes in the updates folder - c:program filesmicrosoft gameszoo
tycoonupdates
*.zoo* - goes in the maps folder... c:program filesmicrosoft gameszoo
tycoonmaps.
with the reindeer, the *.dll* file goes in the main zoo tycoon folder,
located at c:program filesmicrosoft gameszoo tycoon
and the *.ztd* goes in the updatse folder - c:program filesmicrosoft
gameszoo tycoonupdates

Ok, I know this isn't Zoo Admin. But I have complained to them countless
times about their downloads zip files beign empty when i download them.
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem>? or if they could fix it?

is it only from that certain site, or has it happened ANYWHERE else?
do you have a firewall?
what version of windows do you run...
what version of winzip do you have....
try this please.
uninstall winzip.
then, go back to c:program files and delete the winzip folder.
reinstall a new version of winzip, perferably winzip version 8.

I downloaded onto my computer form the official site and from this site
into "MY documents" but when I try to get them, they are never there
when zoo tycoon restarts. What am I doing wrong?

when you first download something, save it to this folder instead:
c:program filesMicrosoft gamesZoo tycoonupdates.
now, the items should appear in the game.
here are something you'll need to know.
anything that ends in .ZIP needs to be OPENED (with winzip
www.winzip.com) and then:
*anything that ends in _.ZTD_ goes directly in the updates folder.*
*anything that ends in _.dll_ goes in the main zoo tycoon folder*:
c:program filesMicrosoft gamesZoo tycoon.
*anything that ends in _.zoo_ goes in the maps folder*: c:program
filesMicrosoft gamesZoo tycoonmaps UNLESS its a user created zoo, the it
too goes in the updates folder.

If an object has a patch.exe file, that need to go in the main Zoo
Tycoon folder (C:Program File/Microsoft Games/Zoo Tycoon), then click on
the patch to execute it.
Are you running just ZT or do you have any expansion packs?

I just have the regular zoo tycoon. I am really quite computer
illiterate. All I really like to do is play games and look at astronomy

Make sure you have installed the update from Microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/games/zootycoon/downloads.asp
click where it says Zoo Tycoon update (the patch for XP does something
else) ...you will know it is installed properly by starting the game, in
the lower right hand corner of the main menu screen is a version number
...without the patch this number will be 10.10.00.0006 ...when you
install the patch it will change to 10.10.00.0009 ...if the patch isn't
installed, some buildings and objects will not show up in freeform
games, they will only show up in scenarios. Also make sure you are
installing buildings for ZT ...Dino Digs has a lang100.dll and MM has a
lang200.dll, so if you put the patch in the main ZT folder, and click on
it if the object is for an expansion you don't have, it may be tryin to
patch a .dll that you don't have.

I even downloaded the APE, but I don't know how to change the
crocodile's preferences from salt water to fresh water. (I thought it
would be nice to have alligators too. I live in Florida smile.gif ). I
hanven't opened the patch you just told me about yet, but it will be
nice to not have to wait forever to get a restaurant.

sad.gif I downloadedsome new maps from zoo admin.and after unzipping
them with winzip they still were zipped and I couldn't get them to
work.The read me file says:unzip to desktop,then move the .zoo file
intosaved games folder inside zoo tycoon directory the default is
c:programfilesmicrosoftgameszootycoon I tried figuring it out ,but it is
greek to me,it sound like they are some really nice ones that would be a
challenge to try,I would love any help you could give .Thanks so much.

The large ocean map it one and large grass maplisted under new
map,pretty much any of them listed under workbenches. Thanks so much my

Hello, I got a simple complex prob,
My winzip program ran out of time and I have no money so I deleted it. I
was wondering if I can download files straight into Zoo tycoon? If so
how? And if there are any other programs I can use?
Please, just answers, I'm so miserable without my downloads. I can't

you can download directly to your updates folder if the file is a .ztd,
if the file is a .zip folder you must un-zip it first. Go Download
Winzip again...although it says it is a trial version, you can actually
use it forever ...

I have searched diligently trying to see if there was any information on
the sword fish anywhere in the lounge. Couldn't find any. If this
question belongs somewhere else, please feel free to move it.
You know I am not a computer whiz so please help me understand this
directive. I went to ZA to dl the swordfish. It says it is compatible
only with MM. Am I to assume that means I need at least ZT and MM or ZT,
DD, and MM...
Does that mean I cannot use it in a ZT zoo as an added attraction? How
can it be an MM creation but not be compatible with ZT and DD? I can't
get rid of them just to use it. I'm literal so I'd appreciate an
explanation, please.

That just means if you don't have MM and therefore can't build a tank
for it, you can't use it. So if you just have ZT, or just have ZT & DD,
but no MM, you can't use it ...make sense?

Ok, I wasn't sure whether to post this under Technical Support or New
Object Downloads so forgive me if I put this in the wrong one. Yesterday
I was looking throug the forums and found the downloads for the Evil
Parakeet and the Rainbow Bears. I downloaded them both and tried to
start my game and I couldn't. I don't want to risk doing it again,
unless I know for sure which one is corrupted or just not wanting to
work for me. Does anyone know if both of these work okay or if I should
just try again and hope it was a one time mistake?

do try again, but try one at a time.. incase it may be conflicting with
something else in the updates folder. its always best to try 1 at a
time, test out your game, and then if its ok, download more goodies.
btw: when you say zt wont work, .. does it hang at the main menu.. does
the intro movies play.. can you not load a map..? (any details can be
very helpful!)

it will start to load. i'll get the first intro movie and then the blue
fang intro but when it goes to the screen where it says "Zoo Tycoon"
"loading" and the yellow bar starts going across, it will stop usually
about half way through and then the game will just exit on it's own.

this is the first time it has happened. and i have two update folders.
one is called ZUPDATE and it has 19 files in it. the other is called
ZUPDATE1 and it has 14 items in it.

I believe those two folders are put there when you install the mm/dd
one. At least I didn't notice them until I added in the expansion pack.
As for both those downloads, I've got them both (the evil parakeet and
the rainbow bears). No problem with them in the game. Maybe you've got
too many things in your Update folder.
I'm not an expert on the technical stuff....so I'm not sure if I'm
telling you the right advice!!

you should have a folder just called "Updates" ....put all your

ok, i found the folder you were talking about. i must have just
overlooked it earlier. i have 47 things in there and they are all the
things that i downloaded earlier from the Zoo Admin website. i went
through and got the hacks and stuff. the only one i didn't get was the
one where you can build outside of the zoo. i just didn't want to risk
downloading the wrong thing. the others just had one file to choose from
but it's no biggy. biggrin.gif anyways, is there some place i need to
store those files or do i just leave them there?

You can just leave them there ...it is a good idea however to store them
elsewhere for back-up in case you lose your downloads for some reason
...I usually store them in a folder on my desktop, and then when it gets
too large I burn them onto a disk

Ok, i downloaded the evil parakeet and it loaded okay but there are a
few questions that i need to ask so that i can make sure it's performing
right.
1) is it supposed to change shapes and like blink back and forth into
different, very odd, creatures?
2) what type of exhibit fence am I supposed to use to contain it because
I can't figure it out? i've tried several and it keeps getting out. is
it supposed to do that?

actually i'm pretty sure winzip takes the file and compresses it by just
telling the computer how to create the larger parts instead of actually
putting them into the ziped folder, then the computer recreates the
"missing link" (that's a joke son).
to unzip you right click on the folder and select extract, then follow
the instructions.

Zoo tycoon is acting strange lately. These are things that happend:
-After it has loaded, ZT suddenly shuts off
-Then I load it again. It seems to work now. I continue my game, make a
tank, add a harbor porpiose, and I receive the erorror-message (standard
built-in message)
-I restart my computer, reload ZT. Afer it has loaded, I now get the
error message right away.
-Strangest of all: I managed to load ZT succesfully. But in the regular
zoom stance, I am now able to zoom IN once more! The result is that
everything got magnified two times! That means i could take a very cool
and very CLOSE look at my zoo! It keeps on working properly. I can do it
again and again, but after I had zoomed out completely, i couldn't do it
any more.
My conclusion is that the extra zoom-in option, that was avalible in the
beta version, is still somewhere hidden in the game. Maybe we should ask
M$ for a hack that always makes this option avalible.

If you are playing in 800x600 resolution and you change to window mode
you can get an extra zoom, or if you want the extra zoom in full screen
mode, change the resolution to 1024x768 ....just make sure your comp
supports it
