Like in jwa's post about the okapi here is another endangered animal birth:
a baby bonobo was born Dec. 29 at the Columbus Zoo he was born to Unga, one of two bonobos that were being shipped from Belgium on Sept. 11, 2001. Because of the days tragic events, they were forced to spend 6 days in Gander, Newfoundland. The new (male) bonobo was named Gander because of the generocity of the people of that city during Unga's stay. This birth brings the zoo's total number of bonobos to 14 and two other females are also pregnant. The zoo has had great success with breeding both bonobos and western lowland gorillas(and is home to the first gorilla ever born in captivity, Colo) :D

it seems like there is always a baby in the bonobo exhibit the exhibit is really cool too (it also has red river hogs in it but they are confined to one corner) it has huge trees and ive seen the bonobos in them about 40 ft. off the ground! they are very entertaining always active
and here's something else i found on the zoo site with some bonobo info:

I know barely anything about bonobos. I'm glad they're reproducing, though. :D
