She was born this past sunday, and it seems she was a little bit of surprise, her mom was on birth-control, and the zookeepers didn't know she was pregnant at first. THey don't have much info up at the
ZOO'S WEBSITE but there is a little info and picture or 2 to be found.

the coulmbus zoo has a pair of orangs but i wouldnt be expecting a baby soon the female seems to be terrified of the male she smacks him and runs if he comes too close

and then she curls up in the grass with a burlap sack and pretends to be a rock

(the new orang exhibit has a cool feature too there is a boat ride that goes past the exhibit and when the orangs hit a button water pours on the boats

i dont know if theyve learned to use it yet though)

Orangs dousing the guests with water?!? Oh that is great. They are intelligent and will learn eventually. Man the Columbus Zoo sounds good. Hey, can anyone program the orangs in Zoo Tycoon to spray water on the guests?

TOOO funny! that would be a great feature!
The thing about the orang at the Memphis zoo is that they weren't trying to breed the female. and from what I heard in the TV news, apparently the Keepers only found out she was pregnant about a month ago.
Now, if they can only have that kind of luck with our pandas.

LOL, Okapi that water feature sounds really entertaining!

I love orangs, they may be my favourite ape. It's excellent that there's some new additions to the orangutan population!

sometimes when i volunteer at the zoo me and some of the others ride the boats during our lunch break (employees ride free

) and it would be quite funny to return to our superviser after lunch completely soaked!

(maybe theyll learn how to use it this spring when they get to go back outside

)

there was an article in my newspaper about this. it said that usually when a baby animal is born at the memphis zoo it is shipped off to another zoo after it is old enough to leave its mother. they said they will be keeping this one and a nursery is almost complete for baby animals at the zoo. they also have 2 jaguar cubs, 2 sea lions, and a snow leopard cub.

Many zoos ship young animals around for breeding purposes. My local zoo is huge on Mexican Grey Wolf and Black-Footed Ferret breeding programs. We get to enjoy the babies for about 6 months before they leave to be trained for re-introduction into the wild. A new birth is fun but also kinda sad knowing eventually the animal will leave. Not always but most times. the other thing is sometimes the zoos don't have space or money to support the newborns. But don't worry. There is always a place for them somewhere. And dude_88, that snow leopard cub must be adorable. I think the snow leopard is the most beautiful of all the felines.

at the columbus zoo they have a good mex. wolf breeding program too but instead of being shipped to other zoos they are shipped to the western US and releasd into the wild they released about 5 or maybe 7 of them a year or so ago and from what i hear they are doing well(i wish they had an animal nursery that was on exhibit most animals stay with their parents but those that dont cant be viewed

i think there is a snow leopard cub at the zoo but ive only seen pics of it because the snow leopards have been off-exhibit for a while it does look cool though
