It is legal to shoot a wolf if it is on your property (assuming first your property isn't within city limits, then you can get in trouble for discharging a firearm within city limits), but if you don't, wildlife advocacy groups will reimburse you for your losses. Which unfortunately may not be satisfactory for farmers with rare breeds of livestock... but this isn't a conservation discussion thread...

Since I'm in wildlife here at Purdue, next summer I will get to do a summer practicum (field camp) in which I get to mist net birds and band them, shoot tranq darts are fake deer (a precursor to doing the real thing), etc. Has anyone ever seen the nets they use to catch wild turkeys? They're really cool, basically rocket propelled.

Rocket propelled nets? That's a cool idea. I've never seen one, though.

Once, when I was about nine, me and my friend were walking around in the woods in my back yard. We came to what we now call "the deer trail", and began walking up the worn path. We were just about to come to a clearing when a white tail doe jumped out of the trees to the side and scared the pants off of us! It was less than five feet away!

Another time, I was at the zoo and I was at the lion exhibit. One of the adolesent lion cubs walked up to the glass. RIGHT NEXT to it and started pawing at me. It was amazing how powerful lions look. And so big, too...

I live on a farm and have animal expereances every day. I also worked at a dairy for several years. Some may think it is boring, but I love it. I have watched calves, pigs, and lambs be born. I have also had to pull all three(the mother needed help). Right now I have three bottle lambs. It is sometimes a very sad job though. Baby lambs get sick very easy. Many times despite all that I try and all the long hours I put in for them they die anyway. :(

One of the neatest things I have done was to help do a C-section on a pig.
Oops, gotta go!! Motherhood calls........Don't put that in your mouth....Why did you do that to your brother........

Yikes. That would be pretty startling to be riding your bike peacefully down the road and then a deer nearly hits you right then and there. My mom sadly hit a deer last January. The deer didn't make it, but it also caused a big mess on the car. Still sad though. :(

About the double-post accident, yeah. Used to happen a lot with me. Hate it when it does that. :grumpy:

Last Wensday, Me and to of my best friends went to Cat Haven and Critter Creek. Cat Haven is a place were they take Big cats that can't go back into the wild cause of people injuring them or made them to tame. And Critter Creek is the same thing only they take any animal. Anyway at Critter Creek we got to pet a Coyote named Wylie and some type of Fox named Scooter. There fur felt awsome! It was a great experience. We also got to see cranes, Eagles, Tons of Owls, Deer, Racoons, Foxs, Bobcats, Hawks, Falcons, and lots more. I loved the Owls cause there was this one named Granpa and he was pretty much the boss of all the other owls. The funny thing is he's the smallest one in there. He was hooting and puffing out to show how big he is to make us go away while the other owls were hiding. I guess size doesn't matter. lol
I'm going to sing the Doom song now, Doom, Doom, Doom, Doom, Doom, Doom... Oh, and my user name on Neopets is Rushellefff... Doom, Doom, Doom.

Funny thing about owls. Everyone talks about how majestic the great-horned owls and snowy owls are but I prefer the little guys like the elf owls and the pygmy owls. They are just so cute and hunt just as well as their bigger cousins. At my Dad's workplace about 4 years ago they had some great-horneds makes a nest in the nearby pine trees. This year there was another nest. They think the young born 4 years ago returned to begin their own family. :luv:

I dont know how to explain this and i hope i dont upset anyone but i will remember this forever.

I was with my father hunting hare a long time ago and he shot one and put it in the back of the car with us.
I noticed its belly moving and sat there thinking - ok - its dead why is it moving - oh just nerves?

Anyhow - as it was my job to skin the dead hares when we got to the house i opened the belly to reveal some baby hares that had by this time, stopped moving.

I put them on thier backs, rubbed them with my jumper and puffed into thier noses and i rescued two babies.

My father was most displeased as i insisted on buying special milk from the vet , bottles, teats ect ect to raise them till big enough to go out on thier own. :D :D

One of my favorite memories with animals...Oh I know which one!

I believe Wolfie and I were around 11 years at the time, and I went to the zoo with her and her family. Well, around lunch time, Wolfie was getting pretty darn hungry, and got a hot dog.

We sat down on a bench, and from out of nowhere, a goose comes waddling up. It eyed Wolfies half a hot dog she had left. She started taking ittie-bittie pieces of the bun off, and tossed them to the goose.

The goose ate the crumbs, but still eyed the hot dog. Wolfie laughed, and the goose snatched the hot dog right from her hands!

XD I laughed so hard after that...
