A lot of red ear slider hatchlings are showing up everywhere and little kids are picking them up and taking them home and putting them in little bowls and fish tanks. I feel really bad for the turtles because they all are probably going to die of something and the kids might get salmonila. :yuck: :ohno:

what exactly do you mean showing up everywhere like hatching and kids are finding them or are they buying them? (im guessing not buying since its sort of illegal to sell turtles under 4 in. (but they're still easy to get a hold of)) my neighbor just found a painted turtle hatchling at his grandma's pond and has it in a tiny plastic cage i dont know how long it will survive (he was feeding it lettuce and carrots (which were in too large of pieces for it to eat) but hatchlings need lots of protein so i told him to start feeding it small worms (it rained a couple days ago and literally thousands of tiny night crawlers can up to the surface of the ground they were everywhere)

if only they knew how to care for them the right way turtles make awsome pets (if you feed them right and give them enough space) they can live for almost 60 years though (im hoping mine live that long) i have i yearling peninnsula cooter, and 2 hatchling sliders and they are all growing and healthy i soon want to get a soft-shell turtle too turtles are cool pets but some (like sliders, cooters and soft shells) get pretty large and need almost 50 gallons of swimming room when they are adults (if anyone is thinking of getting a turtle and doesnt have a lot of room get a mud or musk they arent as colorful but stay fairly small (about 4 in.) and 2 can live in an aquarium as small as a 20 gallon)
