This is the first long poem I've ever written. Whadda ya think?

The NightMare

Tis on a dark and dreary night,
With lightning flashing through the air,
And full moon eerie bright,
That we find our frightened pair.

Boy and girl, siblings be,
Who walk quiet through the night.
She more scared than he,
Though both their hearts are filled with fright.

The forest is a place full of terrifying sounds,
Quiet yet thrilling
Which make them fear to keep treading ground.
What is this new one so chilling?

Quietly it starts
And slowly louder grows,
Freezing cold the blood in their hearts,
All down to their toes.

Now it comes in clearer
And makes their hearts feel glad.
For what could be dearer
Than a chance at getting aid?

They recognize the sound,
A carriage ever drawing nearer,
So they get themselves off the ground
Up a tree, to see clearer.

The carriage pulls slowly to a stop
Right underneath the tree,
And the driver looks up to the top
To see where the children be.

Up he gets,
Round the carriage walks,
Gives the horse some pets,
And comes in for a talk.

His voice as sweet as candy,
“Don’t you want to ride the pony?” says he,
“He’s a real dandy,
How much fun it will be!”

The boy remembers the danger,
From advice he heard from mother.
“Never talk to a stranger.
These days we can’t trust one another.”

So in the tree he stays,
Going off the coachman’s creepy vibes.
But down the girl strays,
Having accepted the bribe.

Says he, “Sister, don’t!”
Says she, “Nothing bad from this will come around,
I know it won’t.”
And climbs to the ground.

The coachman’s smile is eerie,
His face ugly and old.
The girl is getting leery,
And wishing she’d done as her brother told.

“Come see my horse,” says he,
“What I told you is true.
He’s happy as can be
To meet you.”

The animal as it turns out
Is quite a sight to behold!
The girl lets loose a loud shout
At his green eyes glowing bold.

The creature’s mouth is full of glistening fangs,
His eyes are large and mean,
And he’s feeling hunger pangs.
What a scene!

The girl, she screams and cries
And tries to run.
She can’t believe her eyes,
This isn’t any fun!

But attempts to escape come too late,
Now the coachman has his fun,
At catching her to use as bait,
To make the demon horse run.

“So sorry,” he says, though he finds the fun good,
“But it is his peculiar quirk,
If he does not see his food
He will not do his work.”

He ties a string round the poor little thing,
And puts her out on a pole
In front of the horse, and he begins to strain
And much harder pull.

And suddenly the demon pair
Is shooting down the dark forest path.
The wind blowing in their hair,
Making ghastly noises, filled with wrath.

Intermingled with these are the screams
Of the frightened child,
Who knows now that things aren’t always what they seam
As she looks down at the predator wild.

And that is all I saw.
Prey tell, you ask, how it came to be, this sight,
This event ruled by seemingly unnatural law?
Well, now you know my dementia, the dreams I watch at night!

Wow...creepy. I take it that was what you were going for?
