This animal is found on only one island in the world. It is diffulcult to see in the wild since it primarily hunts at night. The animal is primarily an insectivore but also eats leaves and other vegetation matter. The distinguishing characteristic is the long 3rd digit which it uses to mash up insects to eat.

This animal is the smallest of the North American diving ducks and one of the smallest and fastest of all waterfowl in the world. The male (called a drake) has bushy head plumage. To attract a female, the male bobs his head up and down and shows his diving abilities. This duck is one of the few that has the same mate for several years.

This slender little bird has a brownish plumage spotted with white above and reddish-yellow to rust below. It has a well-developed, muscular, horny-walled crop, and its gizzard is much reduced. It may reach up to 25 in. in length, but but weighs no more than 1 3/4 lb. This little marsh bird lives in dense forest area. It lives in colonies in 10 to 50 birds around the Amazon Basin. Both sexes participate in the building of loosely entwined stick nests. The female lays two to four eggs per clutch.
