I haven't seen a movie thread around here in a while, so I thought I'd make one. I just wanted to talk about all of the movies that we've all seen and thought were good, or the ones that we've thought bad. Any new releases in theaters are welcome too, but no spoilers please (I haven't seen the LotR movies yet, Kandy).

To start off, my favorite movie has always been "The Lion King", closely followed by "Brother Bear" and "Spirited Away", though I also liked "Titanic" and the Harry Potter series.

I didn't like "Spirit"(the animated horse movie) or "Finding Nemo". I don't get what people liked about that movie.

Your turn! :P
I have no signature. ;)

Woah, there's loads of films I like! I love the LotR series and Harry Potter. I also like pretty much all Pixar films, my favourite being Finding Nemo (the main thing I like about it is the beautiful animation besides the fact that it's funny in places and my fav animals are sea creatures :P ). I absolutely adore Spirited Away and I also like My Neighbour Totoro!

I thought Spirit was ok but it wasn't the best film ever. I haven't seen Brother Bear so I can't really comment on that. Seabiscuit was also well done and for some reason I still love The Neverending Story even though it is so old, lol XD I hated the sequels though - I thought it spoilt the story and characters :?

Erm, anyway I can't think of anything else at the moment but I'll be sure to post my opinions on more movies if I come up with anything! :))

My favorite movie thusfar in the season is Troy. I thought it was very well done and very accurate. I think anyone that is into mythologoy or ancient history will enjoy it. The character development that went into Achilles was great, it really showed what an outstanding warrior he was even though his allegiance didn't lie with the gods or with his king.

Of the movies I have seen in the past year or so... the LOTR movies were very good... The Matrix ones were quite enjoyable for me as well (being a sci-fi nut)... Pirates of the Carribean was not bad at all even though I went into the cinema thinking it would be... Finding Nemo is cute and funny and has fish! And they swim pretty realistically too :) The Last Samurai was a pretty good movie too... I liked the plot, it was very good. Hmmm... that's really all the moives that stand out in my mind... :)

I think I'll want to watch "I, Robot" when it comes out. It was a really excellent book (by Isaac Asimov) and I am curious about how they could make it a movie... especially considering it was a collection of short stories and only about half of them have notihng but the story's universe and robots to connect them... I imagine the movie will be a new story roughy based on the universe Asimov wrote about in the book.

I haven't been to a theater in a couple of years. So I don't have an opinion on those things playing now. I like many different films. My favorite film of all time is The Fellowship of the Ring, which is the only one of the trilogy that I've seen so far. The effects and scenery were extremely well done and seamless. Even though it is a longer film, I wanted even more when it was over. The behind the scenes stuff is also extremely interesting.

Very close behind, Mary Poppins is my second favorite film. The effects were also extremely well done and ahead of their time. However, the scenery wasn't always seamless. The film had a great combination of humor and messages. Many of the songs were very upbeat.

My favorite animation is Ice Age. Again, a great combination of humor and messages. It is amazing how the animators conveyed emotion. For example, since you can't see Manny's face due to his trunk, all of his emotions came from the eyes.

My favorite genre of films is the James Bond series. Many of the stunt sequences and technology are impressive.

Of the other films mentioned, I also liked the first Matrix and the first Harry Potter film.

Definitely LOTR and the Harry Potters but my favorite is still Jurassic Park. Gotta love those raptors. And yes I am one of few guys in the world who enjoyed Titanic.
Lion King and Lady and the Tramp top my favorite Disney films and for old-school movies gotta love Gremlins :gizmo:

I loved The Lion King, but I'll break from tradition a little and admit my favorite Disney movie was Beauty and the Beast. I can't really say why I liked it so much...it just strikes a chord with me, I guess.

Aside from that...man, there are so many movies I love. Short Circuit, Enemy of the State, Ice Age, Batteries Not Included, The Abyss, Phenomenon, Signs, The Bourne Identity, of course the LOTR movies, Awakenings, The Secret of NIMH, The Land Before Time (the first one, not all the stupid sequels), Antitrust, Murder By Numbers, Dragonfly, The Mothman Prophecies...the list goes on and on.

Generally speaking I either like movies that make me think or make me laugh, or both. I don't like depressing movies or chick flicks.

probably the worst time for me to get into a movie discussion. i probably have already broken my personnel record for longest time without going to the movies.

anywyas i love all the pixar movies. especially nemo. i like movies like troy (really wanna see that one) lotr .... i really liked kill bill, one of my favorites. i also wanna se van helsing. ummm not a huge fan of the harry potter movies but i took my lil sis the last two times so i'll probably be doing that again sometime this weekend. loved the first matrix flick, was disapointed by the next 2. i'll admit i like the disney movies (weird i liked them as a kid then they became uncool and now that im 17 it's alright again, weird huh?) I loved minority report. and i liked chicago and moulin rogue because they were musicals which i for one liked. i like any james bond flick. i've never seen a single star wars movie and i never plan to. i liked the first jurrasic park and the rest i could't stand. now i love the lotr trilogy, or at least i think i will. i never saw any of them in theathers. like jay the only one ive seen is the first, and i sa the extended edition not the theatrical cut. pirates of the carribean im having a love/hate relationshp with right now. i saw ice age but didn't really like it. oh and i can't believe im admiting this but i liked titanic when i first saw it. ;)

my list: 1st: fellowship of the ring, 2nd: the matrix, 3rd: minority report

I liked Minority Report as well, possibly my favorite of the Tom Cruise films. Top Gun was OK, but it was too formula for my tastes.

Back to Minority Report ... Spielberg gathered a group of "experts" to discuss the way things will be 50 years from now. They all agreed on personalized ads as you walk by stores. The prototypes for a number of the things already exist. However, I think there will be a resistance to that from the population as a whole. People want their (perceived) privacy. Look at how many people opted for "no telemarketers" in the U.S..

Yeah I liked Minority Report as well... really good for my science fiction fix :) Though I really wouldn't recommend it for anyone under about 14 because of content that doesn't really have much to do with the plot... :\

I saw Van Helsing today :)) Pretty good if you like vampires and similar such monsters. Wally would probably love it... though I kind of thought wolfbane was the cure for lycanthropy and they hadn't invented hypodermic needles yet... oh well... that's just details... It was a pretty good movie unless you don't like sudden things happen... which is why I'm glad my mom didn't come with us (she jumps a lot in movies like that) nice story though.

I haven't been to the cinema in a while, but I've been devouring DVDs again recently.
The other night I got through SWAT, which is a reasonbably decent action flick and both versions of the Italian Job.
The new version is good. Nice set pieces, some decent actors and it was interesting to watch. Unfortunately I watched it straight AFTER the original. Not a good move.
The original is a real classic (go watch it), nice action, a good story, decent actors and a quirky sense of humour that the "re-make" lacks.
Oh and I finally got around to watching Matrix Revolution. It was fun, some amazing visuals, but a little predictable if you've been paying attention to the story.
The ending was inevitable, but it was fun. You can tell this because my son was watching it in his room and about half-way through I heard him go "Wooooooaaaaah!" :)

oh i liked Italian Job. i saw the new version but not the old. i also saw S.W.A.T. which i really liked.

back to minority report. yea that kinda disturbed me and my friends. the second time i saw it was with a bunch of my friends because we were doinga school project on movies. we were talking about how the ads knew who he was and proably had him all figured out. we were just kinda creeped out at the idea of huge databases of info on ppl everywhere.

and i really didn't understand the ending to the 3rd matrix movie. it was just over all of a sudden and i reall didn't understand what happened except that smith was defeated. umm if anyone knows an explaination wuld be appriciated.

I would offer an explanation but I can't remember exactly what happened at the end now :XP: Sorry

I did want to see Van Helsing but now I'm not so sure  If it's a really jumpy movie I'll probably have a heart attack! I jump at even the slightest things, lol! :yipe:
