I just thought it would be interesting to see what everyone's favorite books are. Mine are kind of 'childish' per se, compared to the great works of literature, but I'm discovering many new authors that I enjoy reading.

1. Watership Down by Richard Adams
2. Fire Bringer by David Clement-Davies
3. Taggerung by Brian Jacques
4. The Sight by David Clement-Davies
5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
6. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien (I don't like the LoTR trilogy, though)

I'm also thinking about reading some of the "Dragonriders of Pern" series. Lookit that, they're all from the fantasy genre! How interesting. XD Also, for you anime fans (I'm one too), I'm looking into some mangas. I'm thinking about Inuyasha (I'm number 32 on the waiting list at my library!), Trigun, and Fruits Basket. Are any of those any good?

So, what are your favorite books? I like to know what others think. :)

PS: If you want to know more about one of the books in my list, just ask in a reply

1. Everything by Terry Pratchett (He's a genius)
2. The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien
3. Faust - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
4. The Dragonlance Saga - by various writers (Raistlin rules XD )

InuYasha is great...one of my favourite mangas !

1: Anything by Michael Crichton (especially Jurassic Park)
2: Dragonlance Series (Raistlin is the best wizard anywhere)
3: The Davinci Code by Dan Brown
4: Any book with the Forgotten Relams hero Drizzt Do' Urden by R.A. Salvatore
5: Chronicles of Narnia
6: Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIHM
7: LotR series including the Hobbit

As you can tell I love to read. And oh lest I forget the master of horror Stephen King.

I have a lot of books... I guess

1. Brave New Wolrd - Aldous Huxley. Incredible universe and original plot. A book that really makes you think.

2. Dune - Frank Herbert. An excellent science fiction and really amazing in detail.

3. I, Robot - Isaac Asimov. From what I've heard, nothing like the movie. Though it'd be hard to make a movie that's like a book of short stories.

4. Blindness - Jose Saramago. Yet another sci-fi book (can you tell it's my favorite genre?). I don't recommend it for younger audiences. There is an incredibly disturbing scene in it. But the book overall is really good.

Trigun anime is good - I have heard that the manga is very different.

And Wolfyu, don't tell Luna you're interested in the Dragon Riders of Pern series. Anne McCaffrey is sort of her arch-nemesis. Not a very nice lady so I wouldn't want to support her... (she's met her). My mom read me that series years ago. It was mediocre. I enjoyed David Eddings' Belgariad more, and I would recommend that to you.

Nowadays, I actually find nonfiction to be far more fascinating than fiction. Plus, rather than read a work of fiction, I'd rather play an adventure game, allowing me to be part of the story. However, I read quite a bit of fiction in my youth. My favorite were the Sherlock Holmes stories. For science fiction, I preferred Heinlein over Asimov. He always seemed to be more realistic (at least my vision of realism). I also liked Jules Verne. As for other collections, I liked Mark Twain's works, the Mad Scientist Club series, and fables by Aesop, Grimm Brothers, and Anderson, among others. Then there are individual books: Treasure Island, Robin Hood, Tale of Two Cities, Alice in Wonderland, a few by Poe, among others.

Oh, sorry, Superlion, I had no idea. I'll be sure never to mention it directly to Searain. Thanks for the heads up...

EDIT: Grr...I always get the names Luna, Searain, and Raindragon mixed up. Sorry 'bout that. It should be "Luna" up there...

This summer while we were waiting in that long, long line to pick up our copies of Harry Potter 5, I discovered Diane Duane and her Young Wizard series. The line wound up and down the aisles in B&N so we had time to scan the books laying on the tables in the middle of the aisles. I found lots of fun books that night.

This series is for young adults...I'm young at heart.

The first book is called So You Want to Be A Wizard. The main character is a girl named Nita who discovers through a book she brings home from the library that she is a wizard. I finished the seventh book last night.

Reading from your lists, I would say these would be interesing books for the 18 and under audience. Condemnd likes them. RLK says they are too involved for her. She liked the first one but bogged down in the second one. The books fit the sci-fi genre.

My favorite all-time author is D.E. Stevenson. I doubt that any of you have heard of her. Jan Karon, Rita Mae Brown, Nancy Atherton, Sarah Dallas, Robin Paige, Lorna Landwik, J.K. Rowling, Mary Lasswell...there are too many to list.
