has anyone seen the opening ceremony?

To be honest I'm not really interested in them this year. I don't know why, normally I am. I want to watch the gymnastics and diving, but that's about it. I like the winter games better.

well, I can't not watch atleast some it. and thus far, the opening ceremony is pretty trippy. The staduim looks pretty cool, and the pond in the center was a neat idea.

I've watched a little bit of it. My mother's sort of watching it. If you count her looking over the top of her book occasionally...

I'm not as interested in it this year either. I agree; the winter games seem a little more entertaining. I dunno, I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Going to watch fencing with my brother (he fences). That should be pretty cool. The opening ceremonies (what I saw after I got home from work) were pretty cool. I like seeing all the countries coming in and seeing how excited the atheletes are just to be there

seems like the usa has the largest delegation so normally you guys should bring home a lot of medallions and maybe even break the USSR, Russian record.

the only sports I'm interested in are fieldhockey, 100,200,400 meters, tennis and cycling.

I'm not really interested in any sport so I'm not incredibly excited about the Olympics. I watched a bit this morning - swimming and boat races - but that was only because I didn't know what else to watch...it was better than I thought it was going to be but I'm still not that interested...

I have always liked watching the Olympics. I enjoy watching world records being broken. For the most part, I don't care who breaks the records, as long as I believe it was fair and the person has good sportsmanship. I also enjoy several of the team sports (volleyball, basketball, water polo, women's soccer), especially where there is much obvious teamwork. Although it doesn't have world records, I also enjoy kayaking and equestrian. Finally, it has nothing to do with sports, but I enjoy learning different first names from around the world.

I also have always enjoyed watching the opening ceremonies. I learn about the host's culture and there is usually some good music. However, I did not see these opening ceremonies. As you will see in the Friday the 13th topic, I had to deal with a hurricane. The local news covered the hurricane rather than show the ceremonies. They were going to show a replay in the middle of the night. But most people had no electricity due to the hurricane.

The USA usually has the largest delegation. Although the USA wins a large number of medals, they usually do not win the most. Generally speaking, the USA usually wins a higher percentage of team medals than individual medals, while the Olympics has more individual medals than team medals.

I just noticed that NBC is rerunning the same events in the middle of the night that they already showed during the evening. Stupid. And they wonder why people don't watch more.

I was watching the opening ceremony a bit...
Germany is doing really bad this year...

But I'm not really interested in sports so I'm not that excited about the Olympic Games. It's not that exciting event that it once was (at least here)

Being a soccer fangirl, I'm really excited for the US team this year. Go Wambach and Hamm! GO!

For some reason I really enjoyed the diving. I guess I had never really watched it before. I especially enjoyed the synchronized diving. Those Chinese athletes are GOOD...

Chinese divers have been great for some time. I never got into the regular diving, but I love the synchronized diving. The scoring seems fairer because you can compare things like splash and overrotation with side-by-side comparisons.

I love soccer as well, especially women's soccer. They seem to use more teamwork than the men.

And I do not think that "Germany is doing bad". I think there are now more countries that have top notch athletes. For example, there have been comparisons between Phelps and Mark Spitz. When Mark Spitz swam, the swimming relays were always won by USA. So those were guaranteed. Today, that is not true. Today, one country can win. Tomorrow, the same teams could compete and it would be a different winner. There are so many top notch athletes. If they could only use that to push each other to get more world records.

i tend to watch bits and pieces - does not matter the sport
i love basketball so it is interesting to see apathy on Team USA
and the way some of those girls can tumble!
Carly Patterson and Courtney Kupets are local girls so that makes it more exciting

another soccer fan here. cept im following the mexico men's team. besides the soccer i'll watch if im not doing anything else and if anything is on thats sligtly interesting.
