I would like to say that i think police don't take animal laws seriously enough.
This topic applies both the Phillipines eating dog meat and fox hunting.
Although this year there has been a massive breakthrough on the fox hunting ban, i have been following it for about 5-6 years, I feel it should've been banned way before now. If it were human beings being hunted then it would've been delt with as soon as it was discovered but, because it is "only foxes" it's ok.
And even though the law has been set to start by something like Febuary next year, there has already been thousands of people that have told the goverment that they are going to continue fox hunting and the goverment dosen't seem to care.
And then, in the Phillipines.
There was a new law of animal rights that said clearly that domesticated animals e.g. dogs, catse etc. were to be treated with kindness and not tortured unless it was out of kindness like being put down or something.
I have seen the Phillipine markets and the streets are filled with cages of dogs and cats looked up in very small cages and even being killed in public display and then soled.
Police over there simply ignore it, or, if they have to; give the people involved a small fine.
I think serious action should be taken to stop this from happening

sounds like there are problems in the Phillipines. However I don't have any first-hand knowledge of it unfortunately.

I know that police and law enforcement officials here have their hands full with serious crime and have to prioritize what crimes get the most attention. I don't think they blatantly ignore crime, though.

Hopefully you and your friends can find a positive way to help in the Phillipines

It's not that the police are to busy though.
The punishment for the crime of selling dog and cat meat is a small fine wich i don't think does enough, the seller of the meat will earn more money then he/she are fined and will therefore carry on selling the meat!

:D Told u i did my research on this 1

I don't think the goverment has it worng. Its the people just trying to survive.

The uncontrolled increase in human population, coupled with a steadily declining economy and, compounded further by ignorance, indifference, and cruel traditional beliefs, continue to take its toll on the welfare of both farm and companion animals. Dog-eating and other atrocities involving animals were becoming more and more rampant.

I think with the economy as bad as it is and the rise of total human population, the people are having to turn to eating their pets just to survive. And as unfortunate as it is the Phillipine law does not state how large a cage must be.

I don't think the Philippine government has misplaced priorities... and I also don't think it's up to me as a US citizen to make changes in the Philippine government. If I was a Philippine citizen, perhaps what I would do is take it up with the street vendors, find them better alternatives to selling dog meat. I don't think anything the government does will stop them from using their current only means of income.

But to me, animals mean everything.
They shouldn't be treateed differently from humans in my opinion and i think it's wrong for people in the Phillipines to kill them.
I know that may sound horrinle and that i have my priorities wrong but that's just how i feel!

Are they still allowed to eat them if they don't torture them?

Ah yes, another perfect governmental post from Meltos! I agree with him though. I think that this disgusting display of mistreatment should have been stopped long before now.
And he's very right in the fact that had this been human torture, this would have stopped ages ago, but since it's only the animals that keep this planet alive, it doesn't matter.
I don't know if anyone has stopped to think, I'm sure many here at this forum have, but did you know that if one major specie were to die out completely, that would mess with the entire world?
...
Well anyway... before I get on a rant, I just wanna say that I think this cruelty should be stopped. PRONTO!

Yes, briefly, and I can only think of one species that would apply to, and it's not in danger of extinction anytime soon. I would bet money that you can't figure out what one animal species I'm thinking of ;)

If your eating an animal, it has been tortured, don't even get me started on the conditions that the animals are kept in.

Animals do a lot more for this planet than people ever have, people have completly destroyed it, today, the world is a warfield.
Animals wouldn't have let it turn out like that if they had been in our position!
We however are in the position instead and have mad a right shambles of it. The least we can do for them is to treat them with respect and not eat them or hunt them!
Superlion i don't know what species you are thinking of but i know it wouldn't be a bad thing if humans were to become extinct!

You know what is really weird? I'm actually doing a research paper on Animal Cruelty and Animal rights at this very time for a school project.

But, here in the US, the SPCA and ASPCA take the welfare of animals very, very seriously.

Animal charitys like the RSPCA do try very hard to help these animals i know.
If they go into the Phillipines however, they are only allowed to take 1 or 2 of the dogs and cats back with them!

Not necessarily. It can be done so that the animal feels little or no pain.

So, can the people in the Philippines still eat dogs if they are killed in humane ways?
